Long Post Alert, however I think You’ll be smarter if you read it through. ?
There is this chapter in the Bible in the book of Ephesians that talks about spiritual warfare and the schemes of the devil.
As I was preparing a message I shared with friends on this chapter I learned a few things I thought were interesting so I’m sharing with you friends who might find this helpful and interesting as well.
1. Paul was the guy writing this chapter and he was in prison having to stare at Roman Soldiers all day.
God started speaking to him through his environment and so that’s where these analogies come from.
Lesson 1 – pay attention to your environment, God may want to give you a revelation through it.
2. The armor a Roman soldier wore weighed about 70 -80 lbs. So he had to be strong and fit in order to even wear it. In verse 10 it tells us to be strong in the power of “His” might…so here is Lesson 2 – If we are going to put on any armor we first have to have the strength and power to carry it, we get that power from God. Spend time in worship, how Word, in prayer etc and you will get more power.
The word “Put On” in Greek is the word Endyo ( sounds like En-doo- o ) -it means to sink into (clothing), put on, clothe one’s self. When you go to get dressed in the morning you don’t just stare at your clothes and say clothes get on me, no, you physically pick them up and put them on your body.
In the spirit we have to do the same thing by faith and say truth, I am putting you on, righteousness, peace etc. you are coming on me today .
3. The word schemes or wiles, as some translations say, comes from the Greek word methodia …it’s where we get our word methods. The enemy has a strategic method to take you out.
Stick with me…this will all make sense…
4. The word devil used in this passage is more like a job description and in the Greek , the word devil is diabolos. Dia means through and abolos means to traduce, calumniate, slander, accuse, defame and bolos comes from the Greek word ballo which means – send, strike, throw (down), thrust.
So in summary, The enemy has a method to take you down. He throws, strikes or pounds lie after lie after lie at your mind over and over until he has paved a clear road into your mind where he then erects a stronghold which is like a prison in your head where he rules like a tyrant telling you crazy stuff about yourself.
If we are going to withstand his schemes, we have to get power from the Lord, and put on the first part of the Armor which is the belt of truth.
If you don’t know the truth of what God says in His Word about you and life, you are fair game for the enemy to continue to strike you with lies. So read your Bible and replace the lies with some truth.
Sorry this was so long, but if you found this interesting and would like to know more or the next part of the lesson let me know and I’ll share more of what I learned ASAP.
Thanks for reading this far.
Blessings,
Paige
“In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might. Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.”
